From OFD ConsultingAbbie and Joseph met at age fourteen when they attended a very small high school of only forty students. They were best friends for years, eventually deciding to date as seniors. Their relationship flourished throughout college. One year the couple set off for a Hawaiian vacation. On the island of Oahu, Joseph proposed. Abbie said “yes” on the peninsula, aptly named Magic Island.

Together with a supportive family and her excellent planner, Abbie and Joseph’s unexpected wedding day turned into something remarkable. Two minutes before the ceremony, Abbie experienced a seizure. Without any medical history of this happening previously, she was rushed to the hospital. As the hours went by, Abbie was concerned about missing her wedding day. With the help of her planner, they decided to pivot, switching the cocktail hour to before the ceremony. Miraculously, she was able to leave the emergency room and return to her wedding. She returned to the elegant estate, determined to enjoy her day. The
Brighton Abbey offered a ceremony set in their beautiful glass wedding chapel. They had two separate cakes to celebrate each of their personalities. Abbie’s was pink, textured, and floral, and Joseph’s cake was an homage to some of his favorite things, including their dog, Maggie. While Abbie says her memory of the day is spotty, looking at pictures and videos has helped moments come back to her. She said, “I share my story in hopes that other brides can let go of the stress of wedding planning and enjoy all of the sweet moments in between.” The two left in a classy rose-petal send-off and getaway in a vintage baby blue and white car.
